A nation that destroys its soils destroys itself.

Franklin D. Roosevelt

We've all heard it...

"Our Earth is dying"

"Climate change is NOW"

"Our years on the planet are now limited"

Unfortunately, they're all true. No matter how much politicians may try to swerve our beliefs or companies try to push our worrise aside, climate change is happening, global warming is destroying our planet, and we do, in fact, have limited years until our planet goes beyond the point of no return. However, even as the days mark less and less time for us to reverse the effects, there's still a chance for humans to slow down this rapid downfall of our environment.

Where does CFNT come in?

The mission of Chop Food Not Trees (CFNT) is to encourage greener practices in restaurants and consumers through making the environmental impacts of restaurants more transparent and demonstrating that environmental impacts are local & daily, not just a problem in the Arctic or in tropical rainforests thousands of miles away. Although CFNT is currently a school project with a local scope of just restaurants in Bellevue, WA, we hope to grow this project in the coming years.

CFNT matters today more than ever due to a variety of reasons, including:

  • Eating-out is a growing and already immense culture in the US. Accoridng to the USDA, 2010 marked the first year more Americans have opted for a restaurant experience rather than a home-cooked meal.

  • The greatest trend of 2018 , and one of the most influential factors in the restaurant industry, is efficiency. People are always on the go and disposable food ware is highly in demand

  • More than 100 million pieces of plastic utensils are used every day in the US alone, a prime source of the estimated 269,000 tons of plastic polluting waterways and oceans.
